Spain
In the summer of 2022, my partner and I decided that a visit to Barcelona could not wait any longer! We planned our excursions a month or two in advance, to avoid disappointment at the more popular tourist attractions. Our hotel, the Sercotel Rosellon boasted with the most spectacular views of the Familia Sagrada from their rooftop Bar, and their breakfast was excellent value for money. I fully recommend it! First on our list was a visit to the beautiful Familia Sagrada. We were fascinated to learn about it’s history and amazed to discover that it will only be completed in 2026. We definitely plan to re-visit to see the finished cathedral. The hop on hop off bus was a great way to get around this large city. Although, I must warn you that the walk to Park Güell from the bus stop, is a lengthy uphill struggle 🙂 After a sunny day exploring the magnificent park, we thoroughly enjoyed our guided evening tour of the Palace of Catalan music, what an awe-inspiring building. At night the city is alive and we spent hours winding our way through the cobbled streets in the romantic Gothic Quarter. With so many interesting boutiques, craft shops and restaurants, we were spoilt for choice. The next day, we had booked a day trip to Montserrat Monastery. This was another highlight of the trip. It included a return bus ride from the central bus station to the Monastery, a guided tour of the village and around 3 hours to explore the many different locations at the village. We decided to venture up to the highest lookout point, via the Funicular de Sant Joan. The views were spectacular! In all, Barcelona had some of the best food and most interesting art and culture I have experienced so far. Definitely a “must see” vibrant destination.
