America
My first stop in America was San Francisco, that place where Tony Bennett famously left his heart. I enjoyed an informative tourist bus ride up and down the hilly streets stopping everywhere, from the Golden Gate Bridge back to Union square. I even met an albino alligator named Claude and walked down the iconic Lombard Street. They have so many Bohemian and hippie shops, it made me wish my suitcase was bigger! My next stop was Las Vegas, where I was surprised to see slots machines even at the airport. This city truly never sleeps as I was able to order a salad and chips at 2am in the morning and also saw little old ladies at slot machines wearing their slippers and nightgowns at 6am in the morning. I stayed in the tallest hotel I could find, the Strat hotel, at the beginning of the Las Vegas strip, and the views from my room near the top certainly didn’t disappoint. You can catch the Deuce bus to take you up and down the Strip for a mere $8 day ticket. If you like colourful flashing lights as much as I do, you will enjoy Las Vegas. My favourite part was watching the musical Fountains of Bellagio. My next adventure was a day trip to the Grand Canyon West Rim with a Skywalk and a stop at the Hoover Dam. Extraordinary and highly recommended! Though I must warn you, there are no railings near the edges of the canyon lookout points, so I saw many (foolish) people risking life and limb to get the best selfie.. definitely not for the faint hearted. My next stop was Los Angeles, to visit Hollywood Boulevard and Santa Monica Pier. I was lucky enough to watch the Red Carpet premier of The Avengers Infinity War, from my hotel window, so no complaints there! New York was also on my to do list, and though it wasn’t part of my world trip, I have included some photos from my visit in 2014.. Places we visited included Time Square, Central Park, The Statue of Liberty via a ferry, The Empire States building with views from the 102 floor and of course the 9/11 memorial museum.
