My visual story book

Mexico

My first day in Mexico City, was spent just getting lost in the Historic centre with its beautiful ancient buildings and vibrant street performers. Huge cathedrals and other magnificent buildings with intricate facades are plentiful and if you like architecture, you will need more than a day to appreciate and take it all in. But I was most excited about my day trip visiting “The avenue of the dead” at the entrance of the Palace of Quetzalpapálotl temple ruins located in Teotihuacán. Keep a look out for the giant statue called “the messenger” as you leave Mexico City. At Teotihuacán, I climbed up the (very steep) steps of the Pyramid of the Moon and enjoyed the incredible view of the Sun pyramid and the valley in its entirety. Definitely don’t go here if you have a fear of heights! We also saw the ancient original murals at the Temple of Quetzalcoatl (Temple of the Feathered Serpent) Our lovely tour guide served up the “drink of the gods” – goddess of lust (aka Cactus juice) and taught us how to toast tequila like a proper Mexican. (After so many free samples of Tequila, it’s important to note that you have to pay for toilet paper in some places, so remember to take your own. Haha!) My last day in Mexico was spent in the new part of the city, and it was a huge contrast to the historic centre, with splendid gold plated monuments and super modern buildings and the beautiful Chapultepec Park!
